Secret Book Club Launches With 3100 Women Nationwide

The response from the April 19th Midday Connection interview about "The Secret of the Lord" was overwhelming. One hundred and sixty women emailed Midday Connection during the one hour program to say as one woman wrote, the issue of women wearing masks in the church "hits a deep chord in my heart." Within just three hours, over 300 women had emailed us at Pure Freedom to request Secret Book Club kits. 

"I'm sitting here at 1:28 p.m. listening to the program. I'm crying because I've worn so many masks in my life I've lost who I am. I do know I'm a child of Jesus and he sees and forgives but it sure is lonely out here," writes a woman from Florida who will be leading a Secret Book Club.  The proverbial masks of perfection so prevalent in the American church has met it's match! With 300 women leading the way, 3100 women will meet across the nation to read "The Secret of the Lord" throughout this summer and fall in a quest for intimacy and power as they unleash God's recipe for isolation and loneliness, Psalm 25:14, in their lives.

"Someone in each community has to be brave enough to lead the way," says Dannah Gresh, author of the Secret of the Lord. "It's rarely the mask-free women that do it. It's those of us who've been in bondage to the mask and just can't stay there any longer. We want a more spacious spiritual place to live in. I've found again and again that if I take my mask off, others take theirs off. There is so much healing in this. It creates the circle of intimacy that the body of Christ is meant to be and that, in turn, culminates in spiritual power and authority." Dannah is leading the way by facilitating the first Secret Book Club in her hometown of State College, PA with one hundred women attending. Each of the four weeks that they meet, Dannah will post lesson plans, suggested weekly reading assignments and discussion guides for the other Secret Book Club's across the nation to download and use. Dannah admits the process of taking off our masks can be challenging as you seek the right timing, identify "safe" women, endure the emotional insecurities and reach out for freedom, but together as a network she believes these women can start something that will ripple through the church of America.

Most exciting of all, Midday Connection's host and program director Anita Lustrea was so touched by the response that she's invited Dannah back for an encore. Midday Connection will tape a special conversation between Dannah and Anita in June. Several of the women who've met to participate in Secret Book Clubs will be invited to be record their stories of healing and intimacy as they move into "The Secret of the Lord."
